Tories cut bus services across Oxfordshire

The Tories claim that they are the party of hard-working families. Yet many people will find that they can no longer get to work as the Tories at Oxfordshire County Council have proposed removing all bus subsidies.

That means people in Stanford-in-the-Vale no longer being able to get to work. That means people in Blewbury losing all their bus services. That means people in Uffington having a four-mile walk to their nearest bus stop.

The Tories are happy to see our villages become ghettos of people who can afford their own transport and who are in good health. Only Labour recognises that rural communities will only thrive if people are equally able to travel to work, get to the hospital or just have a day out with friends. There is considerable concern about the isolation and mental health of elderly people, which good public transport can help combat. Every penny saved by reducing bus services will cost us all in an increased NHS bill.
