Eleanor Hards
Eleanor
has lived in Didcot since 1988. For many years she was a locum
pharmacist and she has worked in most of the pharmacies in Didcot and
the surrounding towns and villages.
Eleanor has considerable experience in public service. She has been a town councillor since 1992 (with one year’s break) and a member of South Oxfordshire District Council from 1995 to 2007. For most of that time she has represented Park ward. Over the years she has served on all committees of the Town Council. She chaired the Arts and Grants committee for six years and was Mayor in 1995/6 and 1996/7. As a district councillor she was a member of the Planning committee, and Chair of the Council in 2001/2.
Eleanor has been a governor at Northbourne School since 1993 and is currently Vice-chair. She has been involved with the Citizens Advice Bureau for 14 years with 9 of these as Chair of the Trustee Board. She is active as a local organiser and volunteer for a national charity and a member of All Saints’ Church.
Eleanor is keen to do her bit for the environment and an enthusiastic supporter of Freecycle (a network formed to re-use unwanted items).
Most of her spare time is spent in the garden and she is also interested in architecture and the decorative arts.
Eleanor has enjoyed playing a part in the community life of Didcot over many years and does not want to see that aspect of the town damaged by insensitive expansion.
